A native of Michigan, Mike Wright was born in 1958. He graduated from Central Michigan University with degrees in sociology and studio art, and did his graduate studies at the University of Minnesota in Library and Information Science. Mike chose to move to Iowa City in 1999 (when he could have lived in a number of other cities) as a telecommuting trainer and consultant for a company based in Denver. He currently is Head of Acquisitions and Rapid Cataloging at the University of Iowa Library System.
Mike is chair of the Northside Neighborhood Association, vice-chair of the Iowa City Board of Adjustment, and in 2006 was elected to the Executive Board of the Iowa Library Association. He is also chair of the Association's Intellectual Freedom Committee.
Mike has an adult son, Chris, a cellist living in New York City. Mike and his partner, Michael Knock, live in Iowa City's near-north side with a menagerie of cats and dogs. A committed pedestrian and
bicyclist, in his spare time Mike enjoys running, gardening, cooking, canoeing, and working on their 134 year-old house.
